It is so nice to have one less thing to wash.
I didn't want a changing pad with vinyl after hearing about cracking, peeling pieces and off-gassing. I thought an organic cotton pad would do the trick, but then I found the Peanut. It's adorable, comes in snazzy colors, totally washable, and was a few cents less than the organic cotton pad (which did not account for the covers and subsequent laundry).
I pulled this out of the box and plopped it on the changing table. In went the baby. He fell asleep within seconds, and he didn't appear tired previously.
In the week we have used the Peanut, it has been wiped down many times. Our son seems very comfortable during his diaper changes and is happy to be on the table. The edges are nicely raised to prevent rolling, and the safety belt is easy to secure. It is contoured so the head and shoulders of baby are a little higher than everything else.
There are two things that are not so great about the Peanut.
1. It can be quite chilly to the touch. I have covered it with a blanket on a few occasions to take away the chill, but that begins to add to my laundry again. Part of the appeal of this product was to avoid more laundry. I understand this kind of surface tends to get both hot and cold, but I still wish it didn't. Maybe I'll try covering it when it is not in use.
2. The smooth surface is excellent for scooching. If you have a wiggly baby, he may soon find himself at the bottom of the Peanut. During an involved diaper change (lots of cleaning of poo and a clothing change), I usually scooch him back to the top of the Peanut because he wiggles so far down.
I would absolutely recommend this to other parents. It is more expensive than the $30 options, but considering that it does not require covers or laundry and is sturdy enough to withstand several kids, it's a great deal.

Having a new little boy I've learned that they like to unexpectedly pee everywhere when you change their diapers..this changing pad is great because all you have to do is wipe it up instead of changing the pad and all that. & I love the soft material it's made from & the ability to sanitize it so easily.

As a first time mom, I over-researched everything! A couple friends questioned the necessity of this pricey changing pad, but I am glad I went with it. I was shocked the first few weeks at how often my sheets, swaddling blankets, etc... would get wet and I needed to wash them. Had I gotten a traditional changing pad with fabric covers, it would have been the same thing there... needing 3-4 covers unless I wanted to wash constantly. This changing pad wipes clean easily. The ONLY negative for me is that it's cold and changing my little guy's diaper made him cry when his bare skin hit the rubber material. I started laying a pre-fold cloth diaper on the pad just under his back and that has helped. I would buy this again and I'd recommend it.
